Important things to consider when shopping for a hot tub in Austin, TX
Southern Leisure is proud of our 100% in-house service department. We employ factory trained technicians to service all three brands of our hot tubs and swim spas for our Austin customers. We stock a surplus of the most commonly used parts for warranty and non-warranty repairs on Bullfrog Spas, Marquis Spas, and Nordic Hot Tubs. All of our service employees are background checked, fully insured, W-2 employees of our company.
All hot tubs and swim spas sold by Southern Leisure Spas & Patio are manufactured 100% in the United States. We believe this is extremely important in ensuring quality control across all aspects of the hot tub. Many hot tub manufacturers have shifted production to Mexico to save on production labor cost. Hot tub factory workers in Mexico make on average about $2 an hour, while most United States hot tub factories start their labor workers around $15 – $17 per hour. With this drastic labor cost difference, shouldn’t the hot tubs built in Mexico cost a fraction of those built here in the United States? As you will find doing some research, many of the hot tubs built in Mexico sell for higher retail prices than those built here in the United States! That means more profit for those big publicly-traded companies and their dealers, while you the customer receive an inferior product.
Warranty is an area that is often overlooked by shoppers when hunting for the perfect hot tub. Every manufacturer has their own unique details to their warranty policy, but most of the big manufacturers have very similar key aspects of their hot tub warranties. Probably the most important part of the warranty to consider is the equipment and plumbing portion. This part of the warranty will cover they key components that make the water heat and bubble in your spa. These components typically consist of: pumps, heater, circuit board, topside controller, plumbing pipe, and plumbing fittings. Top tier manufacturers will typically put a 5 year warranty on the equipment and plumbing portion on their mid level to luxury series of spas. If you think about it, hot tubs are outdoor appliances that are exposed to the elements and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It only makes sense to protect the guts of this investment with a 5 year warranty. The major area of warranty coverage to consider is the shell structure. This portion of the warranty would cover any cracks or defects in the spa shell causing it to leak. A top tier manufacturer like Bullfrog Spas puts a 10 year spa structure warranty on their premium series of hot tubs.
One of main concerns when shopping for a hot tub in Austin is how to get it in the backyard and properly installed! Most specialty hot tub retailers will include the delivery and set up of the spa in the contracted price. This gives the customer peace of mind knowing that experience professionals will be handling the delivery, placement, and installation of their new hot tub. Most online and big box retailers selling hot tubs are much less hands-on when it comes to delivery and installation of hot tubs. Most of the time hot tubs from Costco, Sams Club, Home Depot, and other mass merchants are simply unloaded curbside and placed in your driveway. That leaves it up to you, the customer to figure out how to maneuver the 800 pound vessel into your backyard without doing any damage to your property or the hot tub itself. We think it’s worth spending a little extra money to ensure the hot tub makes it in the backyard safe and sound.
It probably won’t surprise you too much that every hot tub has a different operating cost. Similar to fuel mileage in a car, hot tub efficiency differs due to insulation method, plumbing design, pump size, and various other factors. The two main factors to consider when determining the cost of operating and maintaining a hot tub are: energy usage and chemical usage. Insulation and plumbing efficiency are the main design elements that impact energy usage the most. The most energy efficient spas on the market have urethane foam insulation sprayed in from the shell all the way to the cabinet to help the spa retain heat. A well insulated spa cover is also crucial to retaining as much heat in the water as possible. By retaining heat, the hot tub will not have to engage the pumps and heater as often to maintain the desired water temperature. Plumbing efficiency is the other part of equation when it comes to building an energy efficient hot tub. Bullfrog Spas is known for their 90% less plumbing design which allows their jetpak therapy spas to operate on less electricity than any other spa on the market!
